Playground Buddy System

B’s Buddies

In KS2, we have a group of children who have received specialised play leader training from Lindsay Mc Sparron (Barnardo’s PATHS Co-ordinator) who spend their lunchtimes helping Foundation Stage and Key Stage 1 children with structured and unstructured play. They use a B's Buddies handbook of playgroup games to help all children get involved during break and lunch times.

They model good behaviours and problem resolution skills, ensuring that our PATHS approach is embedded at all times. There is a rigorous selection process for these B’s Buddies involving applications and interviews!

PATHS has been shown to improve:

  • Classroom Behaviour
  • Self-Esteem
  • Self-Control
  • Emotional Intelligence
  • Academic Engagement
  • Conflict Resolution

PATHS has been shown to reduce:

  • Emotional Distress
  • Aggressive Behaviour
  • Conduct Problems
