P1 Sunshine Room

Hello and welcome to the Sunshine Room,

This room provides a welcoming and caring environment for a small group of Primary one pupils. The children are supported by a specialist class teacher Miss McDevitt and two wonderful classroom assistants Miss Mills and Mrs Duddy.

Our nurturing environment is designed to meet the individual needs of each child, fostering their growth and development in a supportive and inclusive manner. In our classroom, we focus on supporting each child to feel safe and welcomed within their learning environment in order to thrive. The Sunshine Room provides a rich and varied curriculum, developing key skills such as communication and sensory processing. We take an individual approach to each child, and this is reflected in the planning and teaching. Pupils benefit from a consistent visual timetable alongside a variety of extracurricular activities such as sensory play and TACPAC, focused around our monthly learning themes.

This year we will explore lots of exciting topics such as Animals, Transport and Nursery Rhymes. Our current topic is ‘All about Me,’ we have been exploring our feelings, identifying colours and developing self-help/care skills.

All of our pupils have made a wonderful start to the school year. We look forward to seeing how they all grow and excel in their new setting!
