School of Sanctuary Award 2024

5th Jun 2024

A huge congratulations must go to our whole school community today, as we received our School of Sanctuary Award. We welcomed visitors from the Belfast School of Sanctuary Team, a representative from the Northern Ireland Executive and Urban Village initiative as well as our special guest, the new Mayor of Derry City and Strabane District Council, Lilian Seonai-Barr.

Our visitors were treated to a beautiful selection of songs organised by Mrs Kyle. Our Principal, Mrs Bacheta gave a welcoming speech and introduced our new Mayor. Our new Mayor introduced herself and allowed children a Question and Answer session. She was presented with a framed picture of herself which was completed by one of very talented Primary 7 children, Maddie.

Both Israel (the head of the Belfast SOS team) and the Mayor presented us with our SOS award. We were so delighted to receive the award as a culmination of all the hard work our school has completed this year and will continue to do so in the future.

We presented Carmel and Catherine (our SOS link officers) and our other distinguished guests with flowers and treats as a huge thank you to them for all their support along the way.

Special thanks must go to you , our parents for being so supportive throughout the entire process, without you we wouldn't have the wonderful children that we have here in Chapel Road Primary School.
